I would like to continue to grow Ocean Shores through strategic and economic alliances, so that we are less subject to income fluctuations that devalue private property, hurt our business community, and harm the City's ability to provide great service.

The contacts I've built over the past nearly 8 years are crucial partners in our future and I will continue to develop and strengthen these relationships through close relationships like those with

*  Port of Grays Harbor and US Army Corps of Engineers for jetty and shoreline maintenance;

*  GH Transit and Westport for a new ferry system;
*  GH and SW WA Councils of Governments for transportation and trails;
*  NOAA, FEMA and State Emergency Management;
*  State, Federal and local agencies and political leaders for the support necessary to build and maintain our community's resilience.

Experience Counts

Budgeting Experience: Crystal learned budgeting skills as a Program Manager at the UW, developing budgets and managing complex government and private sector reporting requirements. This has stood her in good stead building budgets for Ocean Shores that have helped us out of the Recession and to pay off the staggering debt we inherited.

Negotiation Skills & Experience:  For 20 years, Crystal negotiated complex, multi-company contracts and agreements for the University of Washington and internationally for AlliedSignal’s commercial and government programs. As an attorney she wrote and negotiated agreements for a variety of companies. This too helps do the job that needs doing in Ocean Shores.

Problem-Solving Skills: When she wasn’t negotiating agreements and attending law school, Crystal trained employees in problem-solving techniques to continuously improve job performance and skills following potentially crippling lay-offs. Cutting right to the problem is essential for a Mayor in Ocean Shores.

Leadership & the Budget
Crystal works with the city council to continue balancing spending with maintaining our reserves. She takes a conservative approach to budgets. Using old fashioned hard work, patience and a good understanding of the process, she bring leadership and a willingness to make the difficult decisions at all levels.
